Conversations About Being Afrolatinidad

Black History Month – Conversations About Being Afrolatinidad

Throughout February, members of the Hispanic Alliance had a private roundtable about being Afrolatinidad. This term is most commonly used in the United States and has recently become popular with the Black Lives Matter movement. However, it is not a term that is widely accepted. Our team began canvassing Garfield and local citizens who not only are influential and inspiring within their own lives, but who could accommodate this discussion on a more personal level.
We are proud of these Afrolatino men and women. They made us truly that better and more inclusive work within our own culture needs to be done. Just because something was taught or accepted through generations doesn’t mean it’s right or needs to continue that way.
So please join us for both parts of our conversation, with the proctor and member of the Hispanic Alliance, Mayelin De La Cruz Gutierrez. She discusses with Tomas De La Cruz, Nicole Demaris O’Neil, Delby Vasquez, and Yarnellys Carela.
We hope you enjoy!
